Submitting a book proposal

Writing is hard work. Getting published is even harder. Many writers have quality work, but no connection with anyone to get them in the door of one of the "big guys." They consider self-publishing, but have no idea how to even start. The task looks overwhelming. It can be.

    We're here to help you with assisted publishing. You create the work. We create the book. Together, we help you over those high hurtles.

Please know that unlike vanity presses, we don’t publish everything submitted to us. We look for quality books that not only entertain or inform, but bring insight and encouragement to the reader.

Write a succinct cover letter. Be simple and clear. Tell us about your book, why you wrote it, and who you think will read it. Detail who your target audience is.

     Write a brief Synopsis of the work, and prepare a polished, error free copy of your first three chapters.

Email your proposal to DeerVale@mtco.com. Attach your letter, your Synopsis, and the first three chapters (all in PDF format).

     Be sure you include your full name, mailing address, email address, and the best phone number and time to reach you.

Yes, patience is still a virtue. The review process is complex and takes time. We need sufficient time to read your proposal and give it real consideration.  Normally we respond to your query within 90-120 days. But sometimes there are waves and it may take longer. If you don't hear for a while, it just means we're working with others and you are in the line.

If we're interested in your book, we'll talk person to person about next steps. We'll ask what you are able to do, and what you need us to do for you.

     We don't offer pricey, fixed "package deals." We find out what you need and offer just those services, with "a la carte" pricing that can save you money.

     If we decide not to pursue your book, we will let you know that, too, so you can try elsewhere.
